Nice to Meet You, Mr. Preston

A year ago or even a few days ago, I would have never imagined myself having to start a blog, but seeing as this is required for school, I might as well make the best of this. For my new subscribers, I should begin by introducing myself. My name is Alexander John Preston (I'd prefer if you called me Alex). I was born in Omaha, NE 16 years ago. I have two siblings, Drew and Anna, and two very generous parents. As three siblings, each of us could not be more different from the others. We each have a wide range of interests that rarely overlap with the others'. Personally, I am very fascinated with hockey and hip-hop music. My older brother Drew is very involved in his writing and follows many unheard of indie bands. And my sister Anna spends her time reading, drawing, and listening to music that I absolutely can not understand. We are all passionate about our hobbies and other interests, but cannot seem to understand the others' taste.  Luckily we all get along, and that's all that matters.

Focusing more on myself, my greatest passion is playing hockey for Creighton Prep. I didn't realize how great hockey is until much later in my life. Most kids start playing when they're 5 or 6, but I hadn't even learned to skate until I was 13. Now, I absolutely cannot imagine my life with out hockey. I was incredibly fortunate to be on a state championship team in only my second year of playing.

My favorite professional team is the Chicago Blackhawks. I am fascinated with everything about this team. I love everything about the players and coaches. I even convinced much of my family to share my obsession with them. I've yet to watch them play in person, but that's soon to change during my upcoming trip to Chi-Town.
Since I also mentioned my interest in Music, I should probably mention a few artists that I enjoy. I always try to keep an open mind listening to new music, no matter what genre. My favorite hip-hop artists are Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, RTJ, and Death Grips. I appreciate the dedication that each of the artists have and the variety of sounds they have been able to produce over each of their careers. A few alternative/indie bands that I appreciate are Parquet Courts, Vampire Weekend, Dr. Dog, and Tame Impala. I like to think I can appreciate a wide range of music.
Thanks for subscribing to my blog.

  2. It seems as if your music taste is very diversified! Although Death Grips can better be described as "music that would be scary to listen to in the dark," I respect your independence in music choice. Have fun in Chi Town this April. Sorry you don't get to see Kaner in action.
